Zeeland East Fall Craft and Vendor Show: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at 3333 96th Ave., Zeeland. There are over 100 booths with a variety of talented vendors. There are also food trucks in the parking lot to sample some great food. This show has been a great success for many years. This benefits the senior class of Zeeland East High School. Come and join us for a great day of shopping as you get ready for the holiday season.

Freedom Village Annual Holiday Bazaar: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Freedom Village, 145 Columbia Ave., Holland. Freedom Village is having their annual Bazaar Friday. This is a resident-led tradition that is in its 30th year. All items are made or sourced by Freedom Village residents — handcrafted items, books, baked goods, unique gifts, Christmas items, jewelry, wood working and more. We will have a silent auction, raffles and village café where we will sell breakfast and lunch items. All proceeds are donated to the Freedom Village Scholarship Fund and Boys and Girls Club.

VoLes Volunteer League: 10 a.m.-noon at Outdoor Discovery Center, 4214 56th St., Holland. Our Volunteer League (nicknamed "VoLes") is a service club for teens to experience what it takes to maintain a natural area and captive wildlife. This program is designed for 12- to 18-year-olds who will work with ODC Network staff on a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks at the ODC, DeGraaf Nature Center, and other local natural areas. Past projects have included removing invasive species, cleaning up animal enclosures, and adding nature play features. It’s also a great way to earn those community service volunteer hours. VoLes club meets twice a month for a total of six meetings per session. Spring, summer and fall sessions are available, no prior experience or participation is required to sign up. There is no fee for this activity, signed photo/liability release forms are required with registration.

Artist/Activist: Speaking Truth to Power Exhibition: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Kruizenga Art Museum, 271 Columbia Ave., Holland. Art can be a powerful tool for political, social, and cultural change. This exhibition features 40 artworks by 39 artists from around the globe who have used their talents to fight for civil rights, social justice, and environmental protections, and against political oppression, economic inequality, and war. The artworks range in date from the early 1900s to the early 2020s and include a mix of paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, and three-dimensional objects. All of the artworks in the exhibition belong to the permanent collection of the Kruizenga Art Museum. Eight of the artworks are recent acquisitions that have never previously been displayed at the museum. Admission to the museum is always free and the public is welcome.

Dia de los Muertos: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Kruizenga Art Museum, 271 Columbia Ave., Holland. In partnership with Hope College's Latino Student Organization (LSO), Latin American United for Progress (LAUP), and the Trio/Upward Bound program there will be three ofrendas (altars) on view in celebration of Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. Learn about the Latinx tradition where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink, and celebration. Admission to the museum is always free and the public is welcome.

Da Vinci Day: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Holland Museum, 31 W 10th St., Holland. Learn about Leonardo Da Vinci, the OG Mechanical Wizard at the Holland Museum. Kids of all ages can create Da Vinci-inspired inventions in Spark.Lab Smithsonian and check out cool inventions in the museum. There will also be a special kids’ video to watch and books to read. All visitors can also see an exclusive 30-minute sneak peek at Ken Burns’ newest PBS documentary, Leonardo Da Vinci before it premieres. Showings start at 11 a.m. and will be on the hour. Victorian Visions: The Cappon House through the Eyes of Bruce McCombs: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Holland Museum, 31 W. 10th St., Holland. The Holland Museum is proud to present an exhibition featuring a collection of 14 original watercolor paintings by the renowned local artist Bruce McCombs. These intricate works capture the Italianate Cappon House before its restoration. McCombs’ use of unique angles and photorealistic technique reveals the Cappon House from a macroscopic level, encouraging viewers to look at the iconic home from new perspectives. In addition to honoring McCombs’ artistic talent, this exhibit celebrates the timeless beauty of the Cappon House’s Italianate architecture. Museum admission is $10 for adults; $8 sr. adult; veteran and educators, students with a valid college ID and kids 6-18 $5; Holland Museum members and ages 5 and under are free; $1 Museums for All (EBT or WIC card holder, $1/person, up to 4 per card)

"Cultivating West Michigan": 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Dekker Huis Museum, 37 E. Main Ave., Zeeland. This engaging and educational exhibit delves into the rich history of agriculture in West Michigan, exploring its developments, challenges, and future opportunities. There is no admission to the museum, but the recommended donation is $5 per person. The Dekker Huis Museum, operated by the Zeeland Historical Society, is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of Zeeland, Michigan, and the neighboring communities. Through diverse exhibits and educational programs, the museum aims to engage the community and foster an appreciation for our shared heritage.

All about Owls: 11 a.m.-noon at Outdoor Discovery Center, 4214 56th St., Holland. Did you know that we have eleven different species of owls that call Michigan home? Join us as we learn about the owls of Michigan and get a close up view of the ODC’s resident rescue owls. At the end of the program you will have a chance to get your picture taken with a real live owl. Plan on a 10-minute walk from the main entrance to the De Witt Birds of Prey Center. Suggested age range is 5-99 years old. Guardians stay with the class. Registration is not required, but appreciated. $6 per child, $4 for members.

Netherlands “Klok” Runs at Noon: Noon at Holland Museum, 31 W. 10th St., Holland. See the wonderful moving parts of the Netherlands “Klok” from the 1939 World’s Fair. The Klok runs on the first Saturday of every month at noon for one minute. Enjoy Holland's heritage at three museum sites, the Holland Museum and two newly restored house museums; the Cappon House and Settlers House. Elegant second-floor galleries now house the museum's extensive Dutch Collection of Fine and Decorative Arts. On exhibit are 56 17th- to 20th-century Dutch paintings and more than one hundred and 70 other cultural objects, from fine furniture, Delftware and silver to original Dutch costumes. Follow the story of our settlement in 1847 as it shows the development as a city of diverse people. All three sites are listed on the National Register of Historic places.

Art Exhibition: As we dwell in the fold: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at De Pree Art Center and Gallery, 275 Columbia Ave., Holland. "As we dwell in the fold" is an immersive, large-scale, wearable installation of metal and fabric sculpture. The piece is designed to be a tactile and experiential work activated first by a performance and later by the audience of the exhibition. All objects can be interacted with wherein visitors alter the space through their experimentation with the many forms. This project is in part inspired by Canepa's research into various protective fabrics and their relation to the body: from funerary bundles of the ancient Paracas pre-columbian culture, to tapadas — Peruvian women in colonial Lima who used a veil to cover their faces revealing just one eye, to the folding patterns of modern-day parachutes. Drawing from ancient rituals and the Andean culture's mythology of the underworld and death, Canepa explores how fabrics shape the way we relate to our bodies and the political and social aspects of un/wrapping or un/covering them. For the artist, fabrics can function as a preservation device — of the body, of identity — when they envelope it, but also as an aid to transcend boy limits when they expand from it.

Race, Religion, and the USO During WWII: 7-8:30 p.m. at Holland Museum Spark.Lab, 31 W. 10th St., Holland. In 1941, five religious organizations representing Protestants, Catholics, and Jews came together to form the United Service Organizations, or USO. Hope history majors Carolyn Thornbury and Ingrid Oslund will share how the USO faced cultural, religious, and racial challenges and sought to build a more inclusive nation.

Comedy trailblazer and actor, Dane Cook, is known for his legendary stand-up comedy specials, unparalleled stage presence, and outrageous observational humor. Knee-high Naturalists: 10-11:30 a.m. at Dragonflies Discovery Preschool, 30 152nd Ave., Holland. Knee-high Naturalists introduces the wonders of the natural world to young children. Crafts, activities, books, snacks, live animals, and outside exploration will be incorporated into their nature-based learning experience. Parents can drop off their 4- to 6-year-old or stay with the class. Parents or guardians are asked to attend with their 3-year-old to help with bathroom use and transitioning into a group learning environment. Suggested age range: 3-6 years old. Free Dinner and a Movie: 5-8 p.m. Join the Momentum Center, 401 N. Seventh St., Grand Haven. On the second Friday of every month to enjoy a free dinner and movie night. Dinner is served 5-6 p.m. and the movie plays 6-8 p.m. No registration is required. The November movie will be “The Boy and the Heron.” Mahito, a young 12-year-old boy, struggles to settle in a new town after his mother's death. However, when a talking heron informs Mahito that his mother is still alive, he enters an abandoned tower in search of her, which takes him to another world. This movie is rated PG-13.

Nature Hike: 2 p.m. at Hudsonville Nature Center, 2700 New Holland St., Hudsonville. Early November is a time between fall color and the winter snows beginning. Winter resident birds have arrived and animals have slowed down and moved into their winter modes. With the leaves coming off of the trees this is a great time to look for bird nests and some signs of insect activity that may have been hidden by the leaves of summer. This is a general nature hike where we will look for birds and other items of interest and talk about what transitions are taking place in the woods and fields as winter approaches. Naturalist Craig Elston will lead all walks, sharing information about the natural features and helping you to learn to identify many species. All walks will begin from the parking area at the end of New Holland Avenue, east of 32nd Avenue. Participants should come prepared for the weather, as the walk will be held except in the event of threatening or severe weather. Long pants and shoes or hiking boots are recommended for all walks. Honoring the Gete Anishinaabek: Stories of the Mounds and the Grand River: 6-7 p.m. at Saugatuck/Douglas History Center, 130 W. Center St., Douglas. There are many written and oral stories about the Mounds and the Grand River in Owashtanong (Grand Rapids). Many of the most present stories are shared from a settler-colonial perspective that privileges settler perspectives of land and history. For this talk, Andrea Riley-Mukavetz, a citizen of the crane clan of the Chippewa (Ojibwe), draws upon archival material, oral history, and Indigenous perspectives to share another story and history of the Mounds and Grand River that recognizes and prioritizes Anishinaabeg beliefs of land, relationships, and diplomacy.

VoLes Volunteer League: 3:30-5 p.m. at Outdoor Discovery Center, 4214 56th St., Holland. Our Volunteer League (nicknamed "VoLes") is a service club for teens to experience what it takes to maintain a natural area and captive wildlife. This program is designed for 12- to 18-year-olds who will work with ODC Network staff on a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks at the ODC, DeGraaf Nature Center, and other local natural areas. Past projects have included removing invasive species, cleaning up animal enclosures, and adding nature play features. It’s also a great way to earn those community service volunteer hours. VoLes club meets twice a month for a total of six meetings per session. Spring, summer and fall sessions are available, no prior experience or participation is required to sign up. There is no fee for this activity, signed photo/liability release forms are required with registration.

Annual Birds and Brews: 6-8 p.m. at 2948 Blue Star Highway, Douglas. It’s the Live Birds of Prey and Beer Show with the Outdoor Discovery Center and Saugatuck Brewing Co. Get up close and personal with the raptors of the Outdoor Discovery Center. Victorian Visions: The Cappon House through the Eyes of Bruce McCombs: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Holland Museum, 31 W. 10th St., Holland. The Holland Museum is proud to present an exhibition featuring a collection of 14 original watercolor paintings by the renowned local artist Bruce McCombs. These intricate works capture the Italianate Cappon House before its restoration. McCombs’ use of unique angles and photorealistic technique reveals the Cappon House from a macroscopic level, encouraging viewers to look at the iconic home from new perspectives. In addition to honoring McCombs’ artistic talent, this exhibit celebrates the timeless beauty of the Cappon House’s Italianate architecture. Dashing through Glenn Holiday Fun Run: 10 a.m.-noon at Waypost Brewing Company, 1630 Blue Star Highway, Fennville. Dress in your best holiday attire and join us for our annual 5K fun run through the town of Glenn, ending up at Waypost for breakfast and a pint. Proceeds from this race will help maintain the historic Glenn Square, located in the heart of downtown Glenn. The Glenn Square hosts gatherings and fundraisers, but the park is yours to enjoy throughout the year. Glenn Circle of Lights Celebration: 5-7 p.m. in Glenn. Friday after Thanksgiving, Glenn, Michigan lights up for family fun. Starting at 5 p.m., this free event welcomes all for an old-fashioned holiday celebration. Highlights include free family photos in a vintage sleigh, festive offerings at local businesses, a bake sale with tours of Glenn’s historic schoolhouse, and Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving to the Glenn Square in a horse-drawn carriage at 6 p.m. After Santa lights the tree, he and Mrs. Claus lead the crowd to the Glenn Church for a community sing-a-long with Dan Pierce, visits with Santa, a free gingerbread-house raffle for children, homemade cookies, hot chocolate and more.

Annual Saugatuck Christmas Tree Lighting: 6-8 p.m. at 502 Water St., Saugatuck. The holiday season officially gets underway with the annual Christmas Tree lighting the evening after Thanksgiving when a costumed Santa visits the gazebo at Wicks Park, and everyone gathers for hot chocolate, desserts, and the ceremonial switching-on of the tree’s glimmering lights.

Crane’s Drive-Thru Holiday Light Show: 6-10 p.m. at Crane Orchards U-Pick and Corn Maze, 6054 124th Ave., Fennville. Get in the holiday spirit. Starting November 2024 Crane’s will open the orchard for a magical holiday drive-through light show. With a mile of lit winter wonderland, experience the orchard like never before and enjoy holiday magic from the comfort of your car. No buses, commercial vehicles, limos, semi-trucks, or vehicles towing trailers permitted. Vehicles must be under 9.5 feet tall and less than 24 feet long to enter.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: 7-10 p.m. at Holland Community Theatre, 50 W. Ninth St., Holland. "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" is a holiday classic that tells the story of what happens when the rowdy and misbehaved Herdman children, considered the worst kids in town, decide to participate in the local church’s annual Christmas pageant. The town is horrified as the Herdmans, who have never heard the Christmas story, take over all the main roles. What follows is a series of comic mishaps and misunderstandings as the Herdmans wreak havoc on rehearsals. But as the pageant draws near, something surprising happens — through their unconventional approach, the Herdmans help everyone see the true meaning of Christmas in a new and heartfelt way. Open Studio: 2-4 p.m. at Wine and Canvas, 2675 E. Paris Ave. SE, Ste. E, Grand Rapids. Open studio is a great time to get creative on you own terms. Pick a painting off the wall to work on or come with your own design in mind. This is not a step by step instructional. However we do have artists available to assist as needed. Ticket price includes use of all necessary paint supplies and aprons, instruction by a professional and friendly local artist, and a 11x14 gallery wrapped, take-home canvas. In studio you can also select to upgrade to. 16x20 canvas, pallet or wood cut out. You are welcomed to bring your own item to paint on if it measures 16x20 or under. Larger items will incur a paint use up charge. If you are interested in a special project during open studio (t-shirt tie dye, pour painting or glue gun use) please contact the office.
